Impermeanence Ferment Low Res 4796Impermanence Dance Theatre is a young dance company based in Bristol, and not only is Da-Da-Darling possibly* their first full-length work, it's also their first time at the Edinburgh Fringe, and they certainly aim to overdeliver.

As one of over 3,400 shows at this year's Fringe, Impermanence Dance Theatre no doubt felt under pressure to stand out, so their description in the Fringe programme aims to oversell the show - eg, 'virtuoso performers', 'thrilling', 'surrealist','glamorous new force' - rather than focussing on the show's strengths and unique qualities, such as its rich and vivid imagery, its flamboyance and sense of spectactle.

Impermanence Dance Theatre is a collective of artists with very vivid imaginations and characterisations who all participate in the creation process, resulting in a multitude of disconnected and disparate fleeting vignettes, which somehow add up to a full-length work.

While surrealism is notably absent from Da-Da-Darling, the work is certainly hypertheatrical, with Impermanence drawing you into their world of elaborately-costumed extreme characters and their interactions with each other.

With a huge imbalance between dance and theatricality, Da-Da-Darling is a bizarre, sensual and indulgent work with a startling number of costumes for the seven-strong cast. And maybe in the future, Impermanence will pick out the highlights and offer a Greatest Hits version of this piece.

Da-Da-Darling is at Zoo every day at 22.15 until 31 August.
