'An in-depth study of stockbrokers- interestingly, the more they earned, the more likely they were to have high levels of anxiety and feel lonely. On average they spent twelve hours a day at work; daily, they smoked nearly two packs of cigarettes, consuming both alcohol and some form of illegal substance' (James,2007) 'A Long Way Down' is a surreal examination into the issue of 'Status Anxiety' taking a look at five employees of the 'General National Bank'. This piece of live dance theatre explores how the drive for success and status can engulf a person's existence. Taking a look at a world where 16-hour days are routine, human relationships are neglected, used only for the functional purpose of pro-creation or to improve status. 'A Long Way Down' looks at a society that is based on the belief that only success brings happiness.
