Cloud Dance Festival began its third year with ‘Restless’, a diverse collection promising a stimulating evening’s entertainment.

The weekend of 24th – 26th May marked the return of another splendid Cloud Dance Festival. With twenty-one works showcasing over three nights, Restless, Cloud Dance’s latest contemporary dance platform, promised to be stimulating and informative.

Saturday night at Jacksons Lane was a burgeoning event as the enthusiastic audience took their seats swiftly, inundating the theatre elegantly. Cloud Dance Festival, now into its third year, had programmed ‘Restless’ with a compilation of some exciting contemporary dance companies, choreographers and dancers to stimulate, entertain and challenge the intellect over three successive evenings.

Upon my first visit to Jackson's Lane, I am completely unsure of what to expect both from the building itself and from Cloud Dance Festival. The festival is now into its third year; having been built from a mere platform to showcase Cloud Dance, it is now playing host to twenty-one companies over three nights. The auditorium in Jackson's Lane has a welcoming and homely feel to it. The open brickwork and high-beamed ceilings are a complete contrast to the black box stage. The stage is not the biggest but looks deceivingly larger when the legs are pulled back to reveal the lighting booms and the wing space, which is the way most of the choreographers have chosen to present the space.

Sunday 26th April brought Cloud Dance Festival's 'Restless' to a close. The evening presented eight works to a busy and enthusiastic audience. Following the previous night's performance when I had tucked myself away towards the back of the auditorium, I found myself only a couple of rows from the front, eagerly anticipating the first piece.
