Cloud Dance Festival is a quarterly contemporary dance platform open to dancers at all stage in their careers – from dance students to emerging and established companies, from all around the UK and abroad.

Cloud Dance Festival originated as an offshoot of the company Cloud Dance, which allows emerging dancers to explore and experiment with their art while making the most of other professional opportunities that come their way.

While the company exists to cater for dancers who wish to pursue their dance careers in conjunction with other commitments, the festival acknowledges the shortage of regular contemporary dance platforms in London or beyond despite the wealth of talent in this field, and creates ongoing opportunities for dancers to perform their work to a varied audience, and network with their peers.

Companies are selected on the merit of their presented work, which puts new and emerging performers on an equal footing with more established companies.

The festival is self-funded, which means that the performers are under no financial obligations, and receive reviews, photography and a film of their performance in return for their participation. The proceeds cover the event costs, and provide bursaries for performers to assist them with their own performance costs.

Since its first event at Chisenhale Dance Space in June 2007, Cloud Dance Festival has invited over 40 companies, dancers and choreographers to perform at a range of venues including Siobhan Davies Studios and The Courtyard Theatre. These have included performers and companies such as Kerstin Schellander, Scarlett Perdereau, Beyond Repair Dance, Ffin Dance, Freefall Physical Theatre, Sylvia Ferreira Dance, Ffin Dance, iRONiNC and students from the Scottish School of Contemporary Dance and Middlesex University.

July 2008 will see the relaunch of Cloud Dance Festival, with its largest and most ambitious lineup yet; the relaunch is reflected in the event’s title Tabula Rasa, and it is intended that this will be the template from which future events will follow. This will also offer the most diverse lineup yet, with companies travelling from Wales, Scotland, Bulgaria, Greece and USA to participate.

Our opening night, on Friday 4 July, will showcase the highlights of the event, including performances from Ffin Dance, Beyond Repair Dance and Alice Imagines. Saturday 5 July will offer its audience chances to see more new works from Ffin Dance, Beyond Repair Dance, whilst a true variety of pieces is planned for Sunday 6 July.

We invite you to attend our festival to view the creativity and quality on offer, and hope that it will be an evening you won’t forget!
