Vanessa Abreu

Vanessa Abreu has been creating work since 2007, and under her artistic direction collaborators have included Andrej Gubanov, Matthew Orange, Noura Sanatian, Maral Mohammadi, Jonathan Chadwich, Ejnar Askberger including others.

Vanessa is interested in multi-disciplinary collaboration, and has attended Collab 08, Rotterdam - mediated by Nik Haffner, 08 and was in residency at KOLT Bjällansås 2009, Bokenås, Sweden 09.

She is currently an Associate Choreographer for Union Dance for whom she has performed and led workshops since 2008. Freedom Flows in collaboration with El Crisis, was commission by Union and performed at the V&A in 2008. Vanessa has also performed with Pair Dance, Gerrard Martin and White Flag.

‘From 1953 to here and there… and then? And never again!’ was premiered at Laban in November 2009 and was again performed at Soft Cuts 2009 and Siobhan Davies Dance Studios 2010.

With a focus on the ideas of preparation, recuperation, humor and transformation versus translation, Vanessa presents us with three characters, scenarios and atmospheres! An element of chance, spoken text, live music and an intricate physicality all come together in this insightful solo.
