Kinisi Dance Company is a brand new jazz contemporary company directed by Canadian choreographer Charlene Dinger. Originally from Toronto, she came over to the UK three years ago to expand her dance training and career. Realising the abundance of opportunities for young, up-and-coming choreographers to showcase their work, she decided to take advantage and form her own company, giving her fellow dancers and peers a platform to create and perform.

Coming from a strong classical background, Charlene emphasises solid technique within her choreography, and having also trained in jazz and modern, these influences are prevalent throughout her work.

Kinisi Dance Company is looking forward to their performance and thrilled to be a part of Cloud Dance Festival!

Copy…right?

‘Copy…right?’ explores the affects we, as human beings, have on each other through our actions. We influence the people around us, whether we realise it or not, and can often have a profound affect on someone else’s life. The idea that people can learn by observing the behaviour of others and the outcomes of those behaviours, is one of the many principles of the social learning theory. As infants, we observe the behaviour of our parents, and through these behaviours, learn to walk and talk. As school children, we are also influenced by our peers, and may sometimes even change our own behaviour to feel better accepted by a certain social group.

Our piece will explore the particular situations, where learning through observation can affect us in both positive and negative ways.

Choreographer: Charlene Dinger
