She is currently devising and performing a group piece alongside a Gamelan Orchestra from York St Johns University as part of her Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Training at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance, which she is due to complete in July this year.

Gwenny Rose grew up in Derbyshire and began her training at Norton College, Sheffield. Aged 14, Chaos Dance Company, based at Deda (Derby Dance Center), was an integral part of her early performing experiences, working with Fleur Darkin, Mavin Khoo and Laila Diallo and Claire Cunningham (Random Dance).

She went on to train at the London Contemporary Dance School where her highlights include performing with LC3 the third year touring company. Repertory was by Richard Alston, Merce Cunningham and Zoe Dimitriou. As part of the graduation performances, in 2008, she was chosen for Cult by Hofesh Shechter, performed at the Robin Howard Theatre.

In her final year at The Place Gwenny created a duet (Between) in collaboration with an MA composer and musicians from The Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Shout and Listen was a solo commissioned for the Westfield Launch held in Derby at the more unusual setting of a shopping center.

What holds

This piece is called What holds. I chose the title because I don’t know what holds for me in the future. Also it’s asking what holds in the piece, what does it mean? What am I going to do? I use the word hold because I am holding positions or going through them quite often. I am actually holding on to something, my talent and creativity – the dance itself. What holds is a statement as well as a question.

Choreographed and performed by Gwenny Rose Robson.
